Martin Solar Project Phase I

We are finalizing the financing for solar project phase I. The $441,000 project will be financed for 10 years, with instant savings through energy efficiency when the panels are activated. As mentioned before our goal is to reduce Martin Public School’s carbon footprint while generating up to 40 percent of the districts’ energy needs. Solar project phase II will take place when the new facilities are completed with a goal of reducing Martin’s dependence on external energy resources by 99 percent.

The solar panels will be installed later this month on the current facility roofs, and will begin generating electricity in December. We will be conducting a ribbon cutting ceremony when the panels are installed and ready to produce energy.

During the past three months, Martin Public Schools buildings and grounds continues to experience a great transformation. For the most part, the weather has cooperated and the project is on schedule and currently under budget. We are still anticipating that all major construction will be completed by September 2018.

The walls of the new gymnasium are up, and the contractors have installed the new roof on the facility. Concrete has been poured in the storage rooms and concession stand. Framing for the indoor walking track has been installed and soon concrete will be poured for its base. The walls for the new auditorium are in place, and soon the roof will be installed. The wrestling room is enclosed with a new roof, and masons began laying the decorative brickwork on the north exterior wall.
