Trash Dash Champions!

This year’s 8th Grade class, in conjunction with their Physics Unit on motion, built Trash Dash vehicles using an electric motor, 2 gears and 2 axles. All the other materials had to be taken from recycled or repurposed materials. After 4 weeks of building, testing, rebuilding and tweaking the classes then raced against each other based on seed times until there was a winner from each class. The 2nd hour champion was the car “Jose” built by Rayne Torres and Trent Keech, and 3rd hour was “the Silver Bullet”, built by Jason Lautenschleger and Travis Thorne. In the final showdown, the Silver Bullet came out on top, winning the best 2 out of three trials. As a final follow up, the students had to analyze why their cars performed the way they did, taking into account forces, friction, thrust, drag and Newton’s Laws of Motion! Congrats to all the kids on their ingenuity, creativity and stick-to-itiveness in building their cars.
